Christopher Nolan's visit to India has been packed with memorable moments, but before walking the red carpet for The Odyssey, the Oscar-winning filmmaker and his leading stars took a detour for a quintessential Mumbai experience. Nolan, along with actors Tom Holland and Matt Damon, was spotted enjoying a cup of chai and the city's iconic bun maska at the legendary Olympia Coffee House in Colaba.
The trio arrived in Mumbai on July 10 for the India premiere of The Odyssey, which marks Nolan's first film to receive a grand premiere in the country. Amid their packed promotional schedule, the filmmaker and his actors stepped out to experience one of Mumbai's oldest café traditions.
Universal Pictures shared a cheerful picture of Christopher Nolan, Tom Holland and Matt Damon at the cafe, writing, "Quick tea stop before The Odyssey Mumbai premiere. A big night awaits, but chai comes first!"
Videos from the outing showed the Hollywood stars greeting onlookers with smiles before settling down to sip cutting chai and enjoy fresh bun maska. The relaxed visit quickly won over fans online, who loved seeing the trio embrace one of Mumbai's most beloved food rituals.
Following their cafe visit, Christopher Nolan, producer Emma Thomas, Matt Damon and Tom Holland attended a photocall at the Taj Mahal Palace Hotel with the Gateway of India serving as a stunning backdrop. The team later interacted with the media before attending the grand India premiere of The Odyssey at PVR ICON IMAX, Phoenix Palladium.
Speaking during the event, Nolan expressed his excitement about showcasing the film in India. "This is not the first time I've been in Mumbai. But it is the first time we have had a chance to launch a film here. So you are among the first audiences in the world to see this film," he said, before asking the crowd with a smile, "By the way, did you like this film?"
Inspired by Homer's epic poem, The Odyssey stars Matt Damon as King Odysseus and Tom Holland as his son Telemachus. The film also features Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Lupita Nyong'o, Robert Pattinson, Charlize Theron and Jon Bernthal. After its Mumbai premiere, The Odyssey is all set to release in cinemas worldwide on July 17.
