Marvel fans are counting down to the release of Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which arrives in Indian cinemas this Friday. Starring Tom Holland and Zendaya, the latest instalment in the Spider-Man franchise continues Peter Parker's story after the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home. Ahead of its theatrical release, the film has now cleared the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), albeit with a few modifications.
According to Variety India, Spider-Man: Brand New Day has been awarded a UA certificate by the CBFC, making it suitable for family viewing with parental guidance. However, the certification came with a handful of mandatory edits before the film could be released in Indian theatres.
Among the changes, the CBFC directed the makers to remove a romantic kissing sequence from the film. The board also instructed that certain strong words in the English audio track and subtitles be muted or removed. Additionally, the film will carry a static anti-liquor health warning during scenes depicting alcohol consumption, in keeping with certification guidelines followed for theatrical releases in India.
Despite these changes, the film's overall narrative and action sequences remain unaffected.
Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, Spider-Man: Brand New Day marks Tom Holland's return as Peter Parker following the emotional ending of Spider-Man: No Way Home, where Doctor Strange's spell erased the world's memory of Peter's identity.
The new film explores Peter's life after that sacrifice, with the trailers teasing a darker and more grounded chapter for the beloved superhero. As Peter struggles with isolation and a fresh set of challenges, he must once again embrace his responsibilities as Spider-Man while navigating a world that no longer remembers him.
Zendaya also reprises her role as MJ, alongside returning cast members and several new faces joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The trailers have generated significant excitement among fans, promising a mix of emotional storytelling, large-scale action and the franchise's signature humour.
With the CBFC certification now complete, Spider-Man: Brand New Day is all set to swing into Indian cinemas on July 30. While audiences will see a slightly edited version of the film, Marvel fans can still expect Peter Parker's next adventure to deliver the emotional stakes and superhero spectacle that have made the franchise one of the MCU's biggest successes.
