Singer Zayn Malik has urged fans across the world to support humanitarian relief efforts in Venezuela after two powerful earthquakes devastated the South American nation on June 24. Taking to social media, the former One Direction member appealed for donations to UNICEF as rescue teams continue working in the disaster-hit regions.
The earthquakes caused widespread destruction in La Guaira state, leaving thousands of people displaced and emergency services scrambling to provide aid. As relief operations continue, Zayn used his X platform to highlight the urgent need for assistance.
Sharing the appeal on Instagram, Zayn encouraged his followers to contribute to UNICEF's emergency response fund, which is helping children and families affected by the disaster.
"The needs are enormous, and every bit of help can truly make a difference," the singer wrote while urging people to donate.
According to UNICEF, its teams are currently providing emergency medical supplies, clean drinking water, sanitation kits, psychosocial support for traumatised children, child protection services and temporary learning spaces for students displaced by the earthquakes.
As of June 30, humanitarian organisations continue to work alongside local authorities to assess the long-term damage and expand relief efforts across the affected areas.
India has also stepped up its humanitarian response under Operation Amistad. The Indian Embassy in Venezuela announced that India has deployed a 41-member rescue team, an Indian Army Field Hospital, two Indian Air Force C-17 Globemaster aircraft, 30 tonnes of relief material, six tonnes of medicines and medical equipment, along with two BHISHM Cube portable hospitals to support rescue and treatment efforts.
In a statement shared on X, the embassy said, "OperationAmistad India has intensified its efforts for disaster relief in Venezuela with a healing touch to those affected by the earthquake," while reiterating India's commitment to supporting the country under the spirit of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam.
Meanwhile, Venezuela's Ministry of Foreign Affairs welcomed India's assistance, confirming that a field hospital has been established in Caracas to treat those injured.
According to CNN, citing National Assembly President Jorge Rodriguez, the death toll has climbed to 1,719, while more than 22,600 people have been affected, including over 5,000 injured. Authorities have also reported 855 damaged buildings, 189 of which have completely collapsed, while more than 600 aftershocks have been recorded since the twin earthquakes.
