Tamil superstar Thalapathy Vijay's film Jana Nayagan was initially scheduled for a theatrical release in January. Announced as the actor's farewell film, its release has been delayed due to issues with the censor board. Now, as the actor gears up for his electoral debut, the film has reportedly been leaked online in its entirety, sending shockwaves across the industry. The makers have initiated legal action and warned people against illegally downloading or sharing the film.
A five-minute clip, believed to be from Vijay's eagerly awaited film, surfaced online earlier and began circulating on social media, much to the distress of the makers. The leaked footage reportedly included the actor's introductory scene and a portion of a song, triggering concern and outrage within the film industry. Several producers and directors have expressed solidarity with the team behind Jana Nayagan.
Subsequently, reports emerged claiming that not just a short clip, but the entire film had been leaked online.
The makers' legal team has since issued a public notice. A statement released on behalf of KVN Productions, the film's producer, confirmed that legal action is being pursued.
The notice stated that the film, directed by H. Vinoth and featuring music by Anirudh Ravichander, was made with a massive investment and holds significant theatrical, satellite, OTT, and commercial value.
It further alleged that certain individuals had illegally accessed, downloaded, copied, and circulated scenes from the film, posing a serious threat of digital leakage across platforms like WhatsApp, Telegram, Instagram, Facebook, X, YouTube, and torrent websites.
The notice warned that anyone involved in downloading, sharing, or circulating the leaked content would face strict civil and criminal action for copyright violation. The makers also confirmed that proceedings have already been initiated against individuals responsible for the leak, with further action underway.
The public has been strongly advised not to engage with or circulate any leaked material related to Jana Nayagan, failing which they may face legal consequences.
It may be recalled that the film, originally slated for a Pongal release, was postponed after being referred to a Revising Committee under Rule 24 of the Cinematograph (Certification) Rules.
Directed by H. Vinoth, Jana Nayagan features an ensemble cast including Bobby Deol, Pooja Hegde, Mamitha Baiju, Prakash Raj, and Gautham Vasudev Menon.
