The makers of Dacoit: Oka Prema Katha, starring Adivi Sesh, Mrunal Thakur, and Anurag Kashyap, have officially announced the film's OTT release date, just weeks after its theatrical run.
Directed by Shaneil Deo and produced by Supriya Yarlagadda under the banner of Annapurna Studios, the Telugu action thriller will premiere exclusively on Prime Video from May 8.
The film will be available to stream in India and in more than 240 countries and territories worldwide in Telugu, along with dubbed versions in Tamil, Malayalam, and Kannada.
Set against the backdrop of the pandemic, Dacoit: Oka Prema Katha follows Hari, also known as Romeo, played by Adivi Sesh, whose life takes a devastating turn after he is framed in a murder case linked to the woman he loves, Saraswati aka Juliet, played by Mrunal Thakur.
His dramatic prison escape sets off an intense manhunt led by an unconventional cop, played by Anurag Kashyap, and a morally complex hospital empire head portrayed by Prakash Raj.
Driven by revenge and the need for answers, Hari embarks on a dangerous journey to confront those who destroyed his life. But even after 13 years, the pull of his past love refuses to fade, setting the stage for an emotionally charged action thriller set in Madanapalle.
In an interview with IANS, actor-writer-director Adivi Sesh said that his character in the film is the most vivid he has played so far on screen.
He said, "It's definitely my most vivid character. I wouldn't say it's completely character-driven, like say an Arjun Reddy. But it's a lot more character-driven than my previous films. I've always come off a filmography where I loved my twists. And there's always this first time I'm in love with the emotions of the film".
He further mentioned, "So, who murdered whom is not a big question of this film. It's not who has done it. It's about emotions and the journey between two ex-lovers after 13 years. And we, for us, it was very exciting to set it in a violent time in the sense that that journey for them together is not just two people getting to know each other again. It's two people in the middle of a robbery setup, in the middle of guns, bullets, fire, rain, heat and desert."
