Mohanlal's Drishyam 3 has emerged as one of the year's biggest Malayalam blockbusters. The movie has so far grossed Rs 236.59 crore worldwide. However, the film has run into controversy after a cardamom farmer alleged that his real vehicle registration number was used in the film without permission. The complainant has demanded that the film's scene be removed.
Drishyam 3 has landed in controversy after a cardamom farmer alleged that the filmmakers used his real vehicle registration number without consent. As per a Mathrubhumi report, RD Rajeev from Rendumakkal in Kunchithanny, Idukki, claimed that the car shown in the film featuring Georgekutty (Mohanlal) carried the number "KL 69 D 2772," which matches his own vehicle. He has filed a complaint with the Munnar Deputy Superintendent of Police, naming producer Antony Perumbavoor, director Jeethu Joseph, and Mohanlal as respondents.
Rajeev also alleged that the incident has led to personal distress, claiming people have been mocking him and jokingly calling him "Drishyam Rajeev," which he says has caused him embarrassment and mental harassment. The complainant noted that there have been rumours that he, too, is involved in criminal activities, much like Georgekutty. He is demanding that the film's scenes featuring his vehicle number be removed and that the movie be banned until then.
Interestingly, Drishyam 3, the third instalment of the superhit franchise, hit screens on the occasion of Mohanlal's birthday. Along with Mohanlal, the film also stars Meena, Ansiba Hassan, and Esther Anil, all of whom will be seen reprising their roles from the first two films of the trilogy. In an interaction with Silly Monk Malayalam, Jeethu Joseph confirmed that Drishyam 3 will mark the end of the franchise. The director revealed that he has no plans to continue the series.
The Hindi version of Drishyam 3 is all set to release on October 2. The makers confirmed that the storyline will be different from the Malayalam version. Actor Prakash Raj has wrapped up the shoot for the franchise, with Ajay Devgn as protagonist Vijay Salgaonkar. Actor Jaideep Ahlawat has also joined the franchise, promising a fresh, unpredictable dynamic as the story unfolds. It also stars Ishita Dutt, Tabu, Shriya Saran, and Rajat Kapoor, returning for this edge-of-the-seat family thriller.
