Vijay officially announces the release date of Jana Nayagan as July 23, drops fiery poster in police uniform

Actor Vijay's much-awaited film Jana Nayagan finally has a release date. After being delayed for over six months and facing uncertainty over its release, the film is now set to hit theatres on July 23. While several reports suggesting the release date have been doing the rounds for some time now, the makers and Vijay officially announced the date on social media, along with a fiery poster.

Jana Nayagan's official release date announced

The announcement comes after the makers struggled with a prolonged legal battle and a seven-month standoff with the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).

On Tuesday, July 15, Vijay unveiled a fiery new poster from the film, in which he is seen as a cop sporting the police uniform and wearing sunglasses, on X, and simply wrote, "JanaNayaganFromJuly23." Fans were clearly excited at the announcement, as they were eagerly awaiting what is expected to be the actor's final film before he fully enters politics.

Similarly, production banner KVN Productions also announced the release date with a powerful message on X, referring to the hurdles the film had overcome. "Tested by fire. Forged by time. Built for history. The tougher the battle, the louder the victory," the post read while confirming the July 23 release.

Jana Nayagan delay

Jana Nayagan was initially expected to hit the screens on January 9 ahead of the Pongal weekend. However, the release date was postponed due to legal proceedings involving the censor certificate. The case was taken to the Madras High Court, followed by multiple hearings and delays in the announcement of a theatrical release date. In the meantime, the HD version of the film was also leaked online, sparking another controversy.

Amid all the controversies and delays, the film was recently cleared by the CBFC with an A certificate after months of wait. The CBFC cleared the film after making certain changes to the film. Directed by H Vinoth, Jana Nayagan stars Vijay in the lead alongside Pooja Hegde. The cast also features Bobby Deol, Mamitha Baiju, Prakash Raj, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Priyamani and Narain in pivotal roles. The film's music is composed by Anirudh Ravichander.
