Thalapathy Vijay
Tamil actor Vijay has been in the news for quite some time. It all began when his last film, Jana Nayagan, faced CBFC hurdles. As per the latest update, it has once again faced an indefinite delay as the revising committee has cancelled the screening. Apart from this, he has been summoned by the CBI for a probe in the Karur stampede case, which took the lives of 41 individuals.
According to Tamil news portal Ottran Cheithi, sources informed that the re-certification was going to take place on March 9 at 2 pm. However, the screening was cancelled at the last minute due to a committee member falling ill, resulting in an indefinite postponement of the review process. KVN Productions, the team that bankrolled the film, reportedly received official notification about the rescheduled screening on Sunday.
As per reports in SCREEN, industry sources told the portal that the date for the screening has been pushed to March 17.
Jana Nayagan, projected as actor Vijay's final film before his full-time foray into politics, was slated for a January 9 release, coinciding with the Pongal festival. The producer, KVN Productions, had approached the High Court alleging an unreasonable delay by the CBFC despite compliance with all modifications suggested by the Examining Committee.
The CBI has summoned actor and TVK chief Vijay on Tuesday for a fresh round of questioning in connection with the Karur stampede case, officials said. The actor was earlier questioned by the agency at its headquarters on January 12 and 19.
During the probe, the CBI has gathered material that requires further questioning and clarifications from the actor, the officials said. A new notice has been served to him.
The CBI took over the case from an SIT following a Supreme Court order and has been gathering evidence related to the September 27, 2025 stampede, which claimed 41 lives and left more than 60 people injured during Vijay's rally in Karur.
Apart from his professional and political endeavours, the actor has also been in the news for his personal life. His wife, Sangeetha Sornalingam, has filed for divorce after 26 years of marriage, accusing him of infidelity. Amid this, he was spotted with Trisha Krishnan, after which he faced backlash.
