Dhruva Sarja, Sanjay Dutt's KD-The Devil locks OTT release after poor theatrical run

The Kannada film KD-The Devil made headlines for its controversial song Sarke Chunari Teri Sarke (original version titled Sarse Ninna Seraga Sarse). While the Kannada version of the song did not lead to outrage, the lyrics of the Hindi version were termed vulgar by many, leading to action from the NCW (National Commission for Women). While the film got a theatrical release on April 30, it ended its run with an underwhelming response. Now, the film is all set to hit OTT platforms.

KD The Devil gets OTT release

The Kannada film starring Dhruva Sarja, Sanjay Dutt, Shilpa Shetty and Nora Fatehi is set to be available on streaming platforms after its theatrical run. The film will begin streaming on ZEE5 from June 5. The official social media account of ZEE5 Kannada posted a new trailer cut of the film, writing, "Dust everywhere you step, blood everywhere you blow! The countdown to the Devil's entry begins. KD - The Devil on Kannada ZEE5 from June 5."

KD The Devil is directed by Prem and produced by Venkat K. Narayana under the banner of KVN Productions. It stars Dhruva Sarja, Kichcha Sudeepa, Sanjay Dutt, Shilpa Shetty, V Ravichandran, Ramesh Aravind, Reeshma Nanaiah, Jisshu Sengupta and Nora Fatehi. According to trade website Sacnilk, the film collected ₹24.19 crore worldwide.

About the Sarke Chunar controversy

Earlier, the song Sarke Chunar Teri Sarke from the film KD: The Devil was embroiled in controversy, with many objecting to its lyrics and visuals. The All India Cine Workers Association (AICWA), Kangana Ranaut and Armaan Malik criticised the Nora Fatehi-starrer song for its objectionable lyrics.

According to ANI, an advocate approached the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) seeking an immediate ban and removal of the song, alleging that its lyrics and visuals were obscene and harmful, particularly to minors. Additionally, a criminal complaint was also filed with the Delhi Police Cyber Cell regarding the song.

The issue further escalated to the National Commission for Women (NCW), which summoned key individuals associated with the track. The matter was resolved recently after actress Nora Fatehi apologised for being a part of the song. She also promised to sponsor education of orphan girls,
