Mammootty’s rugged avatar as Burma Karthikeyan in Om - Chapter 1: Udhiram unveiled on his 75th birthday

Mammootty is set to make a powerful return to Tamil cinema with Om- Chapter 1: Udhiram- The Blood Wood, and the makers have now unveiled his character. On the occasion of the veteran actor's 75th birthday, a character-reveal video introduced him as Burma Karthikeyan, also known as Siya or The Elder One. The glimpse presents Mammootty in a rugged, mass avatar with shades of grey.

Mammootty's look revealed

In the upcoming action thriller, Burma Karthikeyan is portrayed as a respected smuggler who commands considerable influence among both locals and the police. However, the character appears to be more layered than a conventional criminal. The reveal suggests that despite his involvement in smuggling, Siya has earned the trust and respect of the people around him.

The teaser keeps much of his backstory under wraps but offers glimpses of Mammootty's imposing screen presence. His character describes himself as gold with small traces of copper, hinting at the moral complexities that could shape Burma Karthikeyan's journey in the film.

The reveal has also increased curiosity about Mammootty's collaboration with Dhanush. Om- Chapter 1: Udhiram- The Blood Wood marks their reunion after the two actors previously shared screen space when Dhanush made a cameo appearance in Mammootty's Proprietors: Kammath and Kammath.

All about the film

The film is written and directed by Rajkumar Periasamy, who previously helmed Amaran. Dhanush plays the lead role and is also producing the project under his Wunderbar Studios banner, along with Shraddha Agrawal and Azmat Jagmag. RTake Studios is also backing the film.

The cast features several prominent names, including Sai Pallavi, Sreeleela and Naseeruddin Shah. The project marks Naseeruddin Shah's Tamil debut, adding another notable element to the highly anticipated film.

For Mammootty, Om marks his return to Tamil cinema after seven years. His last Tamil-language appearance was in Ram's Peranbu, which was released in 2019. His latest character reveal indicates that the actor could be seen in a distinctly mass-oriented role this time around.

The technical team includes composer Sai Abhyankkar, cinematographer Ezhil Arasu K, editor R Kalaivanan and art director A Pannerselvam. Action choreography has been handled by Yannick Ben and Kecha Khamphakdee.

With Mammootty's imposing Burma Karthikeyan now introduced, Om- Chapter 1: Udhiram has added another layer of intrigue to its action-packed world. The combination of Mammootty and Dhanush is expected to be one of the film's biggest attractions.
