Telugu actor Sivaji made a controversial statement at the pre-release event of his upcoming film Dhandoraa. He doled out unsolicited advice targeted at women and heroines, asking them to dress modestly. The 54-year-old actor, who is also known for his participation in Bigg Boss Telugu 7, has landed in the eye of the storm after his comments went viral on social media, with many slamming him for his remarks.

What did Sivaji say?

Speaking on stage at the pre-release event of the Telugu movie, Sivaji said, "I request all heroines not to wear revealing outfits. Please wear sarees or dresses that cover the body fully. Beauty lies in complete attire or a saree, not in displaying physical assets."

He further added, "People may not openly say anything because they feel it is your freedom, but inside they may not like it. A woman is like nature. When nature is beautiful, we respect it. A woman is like my mother, whom I hold close to my heart."

Speaking further about women's dressing, he cited the examples of legendary actors Savitri and Soundarya, along with new-age star Rashmika Mandanna, for their graceful outfits. He said, "They created an impact through their attire, which is why I can name them".

He went on to say, "Freedom is precious - don't lose it. People will respect you based on your conduct. Glamour should have limits; it should not cross a certain line."

Reportedly, Sivaji also mentioned on stage that he might be criticised for his comments.

Chinmayi Sripaada slams Sivaji

Singer Chinmayi Sripaada, who is known for voicing her opinions on social issues, was among the first to react to Sivaji's remarks. She called out the actor for giving "unnecessary advice" to female actors.

She wrote on X, "Telugu Actor Sivaji doles out unnecessary advice to Actresses using slurs like ‘Daridrapu Munda' saying they need to wear Saris to cover their ‘Saamaan' - a word incels use."

She further wrote, "Actor Shivaji played a villain in a fantastic film and end up becoming the hero for incel boys. The point is - these are professional spaces where Shivaji is using words like ‘Daridrapu Munda'."

She added, "He himself wears Jeans and Hoodie. He should wear only Dhotis and follow Indian culture. Wear bottu and if he is married wear the Kankanam and Mettelu to signify he is married."

Expressing disbelief over Sivaji's remarks on a public platform, the singer concluded, "Unbelievable how women are treated here. Just unbelievable."
