'I didn't even kiss': Yash reacts to backlash over intimate scenes in Toxic, says film is made for Gen Z

Yash is all set to set the screens on fire with his upcoming film Toxic: A Fairytale for Grown-Ups. While the anticipation builds around its release, the film has also attracted significant backlash ever since the teaser was unveiled. As more and more assets of the film were released, the Geetu Mohandas-directed film has faced criticism over its portrayal of women, heavy intimate scenes as well as violence. Now, Yash has broken his silence surrounding the 'vulgarity' in the film.

Yash reacts to backlash over vulgarity in Toxic

During his appearance on Aap Ki Adalat, Yash was questioned about films featuring sexual scenes and gory action, and how, when such things are done by youngsters, Gen Z is blamed. Yash said that every older generation tends to feel that the younger generation is wrong.

Further addressing the criticism surrounding the steamy scenes in his film he said, "Vulgarity is wrong. Maine toh kiss bhi nahi kiya hain, agar aapne dekha hoga toh (Vulgarity is wrong. I haven't even kissed, as you may have noticed). There is a certain line, and we understand that. You have to shoot things aesthetically, and what may seem visually appealing later is the impact of cinema. That is a creator's voice."

Yash went on to add that the film was made with a specific intent, with emotions playing an important role. He added, "Toxic is for Gen Zs. It's for the conversations you guys are having, what problems you guys have with the seniors. Us generation ke baare mein aap log jo questions puchte ho usme kya galti hain, kyun aisa fixed rules hai, kyun aisa hi karna chahiye. Whatever your thoughts are, it's the primary conversation of the film. (It is about the questions you ask about that generation - what is wrong with them, why there are fixed rules, why things have to be done a certain way)."

Earlier, Yash also defended Kiara Advani after she was criticised for the song Tabaahi, where she is seen in steamy intimate scenes with Yash's character.

Toxic backlash

A few days back, Kannada actor Risheekaa Singh also sparked a fresh controversy after she publicly criticised the trailer of Toxic, especially its intimate and romantic scenes. She even questioned the actor's decision to be part of such imagery, saying, "If women are not respected, we will make you vacate Karnataka."

Earlier, director Geetu had indirectly responded to the backlash over the film's teaser in a cryptic note on her social media. She wrote, "Chilling while people figure out female pleasure, consent, women playing systems, etc., etc."
