Actor-turned-politician Vijay's wife, Sangeetha Sornalingam, has reportedly withdrawn the divorce petition she had filed against him earlier this year. The development comes months after the couple's marital dispute became a major talking point, with Sangeetha's petition reportedly citing infidelity and emotional distance as reasons for seeking dissolution of their marriage.
According to a report by Indian Express, Sangeetha had filed the divorce petition before the Chengalpattu Family Court in February 2026. The case has now been withdrawn, following which the court disposed of the matter. The latest development comes on the day the case was scheduled for a hearing.
Sangeetha's decision to withdraw the petition marks a significant turn in a case that had attracted considerable attention following reports about the couple's strained relationship. Their marriage, which began in 1999, has lasted more than two decades, and the couple have two children, son Jason Sanjay and daughter Divya Saasha.
The divorce petition had reportedly made several allegations against Vijay. According to reports, Sangeetha cited "infidelity" as one of the grounds and alleged that Vijay had gradually withdrawn emotionally from their marriage and distanced himself from domestic life. The petition also reportedly referred to his overseas travel and public appearances with an unnamed actress, which Sangeetha claimed had caused distress to her and their children. These remain allegations made in the petition and have not been independently established.
Earlier in the proceedings, Sangeetha had also approached the court seeking interim protection of her right to continue living in the couple's matrimonial home in Neelankarai while the divorce case was pending. The application was filed alongside the main petition seeking dissolution of the marriage.
The legal proceedings had seen multiple hearings and postponements. In June, the Chengalpattu court had adjourned the matter to August 7, with both Vijay and Sangeetha having been directed to appear. The hearing was expected to determine the next course of the proceedings.
Vijay had earlier addressed the controversy indirectly during a public speech, asking people not to worry about the issues surrounding him and saying that he would handle them himself. He did not publicly discuss the specific allegations in detail.
With Sangeetha now withdrawing the divorce petition and the court disposing of the case, the latest development brings a new twist to the couple's long-running marital controversy. However, the withdrawal by itself does not establish that the couple have reconciled.
