Actor and Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) chief Vijay was recently seen paying a visit to the Tiruchendur Murugan temple in Tamil Nadu. His appearance comes just days after the Tamil Nadu assembly elections 2026 polling phase and ahead of the election results scheduled for May 4. His spiritual visit also comes at a time when his film, Jana Nayagan, continues to be in limbo over its release.
After spending some time at home following the polling day, Vijay planned the spiritual trip and took a late-night private flight from Chennai to Madurai to visit the temple. Despite his late-night visit, a large number of fans reportedly gathered at Madurai airport to catch a glimpse of the actor.
Vijay was seen acknowledging the crowd by waving and briefly standing through his car's sunroof. The actor-turned politician was seen dressed in a traditional silk veshti and shirt, moving from his usual white shirt and trousers. Nevertheless, he kept his appearance simple.
Meanwhile, the police had to step in to manage the crowds as his vehicle faced delays while exiting the airport. Vijay travelled by road to Tiruchendur from Madurai and reached the temple early in the morning. At the temple, he reportedly participated in the special Viswaroopa darshan and offered prayers. The temple authorities welcomed him warmly and presented him with a sacred âVel' as a mark of respect.
Devotees were seen gathering in large numbers inside the temple too, to catch a glimpse of him. After completing the darshan, the TVK chief left Tiruchendur and was expected to return to Chennai via Madurai.
The timing of Vijay's visit has drawn attention since it comes just days before the counting of the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections votes on May 4. It marked his first major electoral outing as the chief of TVK.
On the work front, Vijay is struggling with the release of his final film, Jana Nayagan, directed by H Vinoth. The film also stars Bobby Deol, Pooja Hegde, Mamitha Baiju, and Narain. It has reportedly been awaiting clearance from the censor board since January.
