Thane Police have invoked MCOCA against five alleged members of a drug trafficking syndicate after seizing 9.768 kg of heroin worth Rs 3.41 crore in Kalyan.

The case was registered at Mahatma Phule Chowk police station on April 1 under the NDPS Act. Police arrested Qasim Abdul Sattar Vasaikar (38), Krishna Nagappa Halemani (36), Ganesh Puthuswamy alias Anna (71), Saddam Gafur Sheikh (32), and Ajmed Yusuf Pathan (47) and recovered 9.236 kg of heroin from Qasim and Krishna and another 531.69 gm from Pathan's house.

Thane Police also seized Rs 29,000 and a mobile phone from the accused.

During the probe, police said they found that the accused had criminal antecedents and alleged that they had formed an organised gang for drug trafficking and financial gain.

Accused was earlier arrested under MCOCA

Pathan allegedly has 20 cases registered across Maharashtra, Rajasthan, and Madhya Pradesh, including murder, assault, rioting, and drug trafficking cases. He was earlier arrested under MCOCA in a 2020 murder case and again in an NDPS case in 2025.

Police subsequently added MCOCA, and Qasim, Krishna, and Pathan were formally arrested under MCOCA on September 8 and remanded in police custody till September 17 by the Special MCOCA Court, Thane.
