After days of launching a massive manhunt, the Kurar Police in Mumbai on Thursday said that the man who allegedly killed his wife over character suspicion has been nabbed.

According to the police, a 29-year-old woman was stabbed to death earlier this week by her husband following a domestic dispute in Malad East.

Police said that the accused suspected her character that led to an argument between the two and it later turned fatal.

The accused, identified as Akash Salunkhe, was arrested by the Kurar police after allegedly fleeing a hospital where his wife was declared dead.

The deceased, Suchita Akash Salunkhe, 29, worked at a pathology laboratory and lived with her husband and their four-year-old child at Shivsagar Society in Tanaji Nagar, Kurar Village in Malad East area of Mumbai.

The police said that the couple had a love marriage. Akash was unemployed and allegedly struggled with alcohol and drug addiction. The two frequently argued over his suspicions about Suchita's character.

Argument turns fatal

The incident took place in the early hours of Sunday when another argument reportedly broke out between the couple.

Police allege that during the quarrel, Akash picked up a knife and stabbed Suchita in the chest, leaving her seriously injured.

After the attack, Akash reportedly sought help from friends to take his wife to Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Hospital, commonly known as Shatabdi Hospital, in Kandivali West.

However, doctors examined Suchita and declared her dead before admission.

Husband allegedly fled hospital

After learning that his wife had died, Akash allegedly panicked and left the hospital. He also left behind the couple's four-year-old child, police said.

The Kurar police subsequently registered a murder case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and launched a search for the accused.

Police trace accused to Mahad

Investigators used technical intelligence and field inquiries to trace Akash to his native place in Mahad.

He was subsequently arrested and brought into custody.

During questioning, police said, he reportedly confessed to stabbing his wife and told investigators that he fled the hospital after doctors declared her dead.
