Actress Poonam Dasgupta has approached the Oshiwara police station after receiving explicit pornographic videos and nude images from an unknown WhatsApp number. The incident has left her "shocked" and under severe mental stress.
The alleged harassment occurred on April 27, around 6.30 pm. While at her residence, an unknown sender forwarded obscene videos and images to her phone. Startled by the content, Dasgupta immediately tried calling the number but received no response. She then blocked the sender and informed her family.
She added that the sender also circulated her old photographs, which she claims are no longer publicly available. "Those pictures are not even on Google anymore. It makes me feel this could be someone known to me, trying to mentally harass me deliberately."
After discussing the matter with her husband, the actress approached the police on April 29 and formally registered a complaint. She submitted screenshots of the explicit material as evidence. Police have registered a case under the provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and have begun efforts to trace the sender.
Speaking to mid-day, Dasgupta said that while being in the public eye means receiving frequent messages from fans, some inappropriate, this incident crossed all limits. "I have never experienced something this vulgar before". "I have blocked many numbers earlier for indecent messages, but this is the first time someone has sent such vulgar videos. I was stunned."
Dasgupta began her journey as a child artist in Bengali cinema and later featured in multiple Bengali and South Indian films, along with several television serials.
