On Friday, the Borivali police apprehended two thieves who had allegedly cheated a 72-year-old devotee of a Jain temple by deceitfully taking her gold ornaments.
The complainant, aged 72 years, was on her way to perform a puja at a Jain temple when two unknown individuals approached her. They engaged her in conversation, informing her that they also intended to visit the temple and make a donation. They convinced the complainant to take off her 40-gram gold bangles to handle the money. Subsequently, they duped her of the gold bangles and fled. The complainant realized the theft and promptly filed a complaint on September 24, as reported by an officer from the Borivali police station.
Under the guidance of DCP Ajay Kumar Bansal, Zone ZI, and Senior Inspector Ninad Sawant, PSI Indrajeet Patil, along with his team, effectively tracked down and arrested the accused on October 10 and 13, respectively. They also successfully recovered the stolen gold worth approximately Rs 1 lakh.
The two arrested suspects have been identified as Mohammad Ayub Chowdhury (35) and Wajid, also known as Annu Imam Khan (35).
The officer stated, "We reviewed the CCTV footage at the crime scene and the surrounding area. It was discovered that after the theft, both accused individuals travelled from the railway tracks to Borivali East, where they took a rickshaw towards Goregaon. Further inquiries about their route prior to the crime revealed that they had journeyed by train from Goregaon Railway Station to reach Borivali. We obtained CCTV footage of this journey to help identify the accused. Based on the CCTV footage and information from an informant, we apprehended accused No. Chaudhary from his residence near Marol Pipeline, Andheri, and accused Khan from Pathan Wadi, Malad East."
