Viral video leads to action: Dadar Railway Police book man for assaulting wife in Mumbai train

The Dadar Railway Police have registered a case against a man after a video showing him allegedly assaulting a woman inside a railway coach at Dadar railway station went viral on social media, officials said on Saturday.

According to the police, the incident took place on July 6 inside a railway coach on the Kalyan side of Platform No 11 at Dadar railway station. The viral video purportedly showed the man assaulting the woman with his hands and feet, drawing widespread attention on social media.

Acting on the video, the Dadar Railway Police traced the two individuals and summoned them to the police station for questioning. During the inquiry, police found that the man and the woman were husband and wife, and that the assault had occurred following a domestic dispute.

Based on the woman's complaint, the police registered a case against the husband under Sections 115(2) (voluntarily causing simple hurt) and 352 (intentional insults meant to provoke a breach of the peace) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Preventive action has also been initiated against him under Section 126 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), the police said.

The action was carried out by the Dadar Railway Police under the guidance of senior Government Railway Police (GRP) officers. The team involved in the operation included Senior Police Inspector Anil Kadam, Police Sub-Inspector Dattatray Kamble, Assistant Sub-Inspector Yewale, and other personnel.

Further investigation is underway.

On-duty suburban train guard assaulted by Home Guard at Mumbai's Vile Parle railway station

An incident involving the alleged assault of an on-duty railway guard by a Home Guard was reported on Mumbai's suburban rail network in April.

According to preliminary information, four Home Guards were blocking the door of a ladies' compartment. When the guard requested them to spread out and not obstruct the entrance, one of them allegedly became agitated and kicked the guard as the train moved ahead. The Government Railway Police (GRP) has registered a Non-Cognisable Offence (NC).

As per official details, the incident occurred on April 21 around 9.30 pm on suburban train unit number 90889, which was running from Churchgate to Borivali.

The Divisional Security Control Room at Mumbai Central received an alert that the on-duty guard, identified as Chaitanya, had been kicked by a Home Guard at Vile Parle station.

When contacted by the Bandra local inspector, the guard stated that three to four Home Guards had boarded the women's coach between Mahim and Bandra stations. When asked to vacate the coach, they allegedly refused. The guard again instructed them to get down at Khar station, warning that a complaint would be lodged with the control room if they failed to comply.

Despite repeated instructions, the Home Guards did not exit the women's compartment. When the train reached Vile Parle station at around 9.20 pm, one of the Home Guards, identified as Manoj Sawant from his nameplate, allegedly kicked the guard and verbally abused him.

The train departed Vile Parle at 9.23 pm after the incident. The police are probing further.
