The Dahisar Police in Mumbai have arrested four people for allegedly running a racket to prepare fake Aadhaar cards and other forged documents, including birth certificates, residence certificates, school/college leaving certificates and documents used to establish Indian citizenship, officials said on Wednesday.

The arrests followed two separate operations at Aadhaar centres in Dahisar and Kandivali, where police allegedly found equipment and forged documents being used to create fake records.

Fake Aadhaar cards allegedly prepared for financial gain

According to the police press note, Police Sub-Inspector Nilesh Salunkhe received information on August 4 that fake Aadhaar and PAN cards were being prepared within the Dahisar Police Station limits.

Following verification, Police sent a decoy customer to US Enterprises near Vidyamandir School in Dahisar East on August 8.

The customer was subsequently directed to the Sam Infotech Aadhaar Centre in Hanuman Nagar, Kandivali East, where the police allegedly found evidence of arrangements to prepare a fake Aadhaar card in exchange for money.

Police also alleged that forged birth certificates and school and college leaving certificates bearing fake signatures and seals were being prepared.

32 fake birth certificates seized

During the first operation, police seized 32 fake birth certificates, along with blank certificates bearing the signatures and seals of principals of educational institutions and two stamps bearing fingerprints.

Police also seized a computer, CPU, keyboard, mouse, printer, an Aadhaar update machine, iris scanner, fingerprint scanner and webcam.

Two people, Surajkumar Ramchandra Yadav and Upendra Kaptan Singh, 39, were arrested in connection with the operation. Umesh Rajesh Yadav alias Sameer has been named as a wanted accused.

Second operation uncovers more forged documents

During the subsequent investigation, police received information about another Aadhaar centre, Shivam Enterprises in the Poisar area of Kandivali East, and conducted a raid there.

The second operation led to the seizure of 14 fake birth certificates, seven fake residence certificates, 26 fake SBI medical insurance policies and three copies of fake citizenship certificates, according to the police.

The same type of equipment, including a computer, printer, Aadhaar update machine, iris scanner, fingerprint scanner and webcam, was also seized.

Police arrested Satyam Lalan Mishra, 33, and Akash Bhagwan Patwa, 24, during the second operation.

Case registered under BNS

Dahisar Police Station has registered a case under relevant Sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023.

The operation was carried out under the guidance of senior police officials, including Additional Commissioner of Police Shashikumar Meena, Deputy Commissioner of Police Gajanan Shivling Rajmane and Assistant Commissioner of Police Jayraj Ranpave.

Police said further investigation is underway to identify other people allegedly involved in the racket.
