Nigerian woman held with drugs worth Rs 4.83 crore in Maharashtra's Palghar

A 26-year-old Nigerian woman was arrested in Nallasopara area of Palghar district in Maharashtra, after police allegedly recovered MDMA tablets and cocaine worth around Rs 4.83 crore from her rented apartment, reported the PTI.

The raid was conducted by police personnel at a flat in the Nariyanagar area on Tuesday, following which the accused, identified as Omorogbe Merit Enaghede, was taken into custody.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone-II, Vasai) Ashok Virkar said police recovered 1,010 grams of MDMA, also known as ecstasy pills, of different colours, the news agency reported.

The seized MDMA was valued at around Rs 1.51 crore, while 663 grams of white cocaine powder was estimated to be worth Rs 3.31 crore, taking the total value of the seized substances to Rs 4.83 crore.

Case registered under NDPS Act

According to the PTI, the police have registered a case at Tulinj Police Station under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.

Charges have also been filed under provisions of the Immigration and Foreigners Act, 2025, and Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS), 2023.

Court sends accused to police custody

The arrested woman was produced before the Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) court in Vasai.

The court remanded her to police custody until July 27 as investigations into the case continue.

Landlord booked for alleged violation

Police have also booked the landlord of the rented apartment for alleged abetment.

According to DCP Virkar, the landlord rented the premises to foreign nationals without completing mandatory tenant verification procedures, allegedly violating official orders, as per the PTI.

Police are continuing further investigations to trace possible links and determine the source and intended distribution network of the seized drugs.

UP STF arrests Nigerian national, seize drugs worth Rs 10 cr

Meanwhile, the Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (STF) has arrested a Nigerian national from Delhi for running an online fraud racket that targeted Indian men and women through fake social media profiles, officials said on Sunday, according to the IANS.

The accused, identified as 27-year-old Obase Prosper, was also found in possession of 5.085 kilograms of methamphetamine, valued at more than Rs 10 crore in the international market.

According to the STF, Obase Prosper was residing at house number 2/10 in Raju Park, South Delhi. During interrogation, he disclosed that he had arrived in India in 2023 on a medical visa. However, after his visa expired, he continued to stay in the country illegally.

The STF recovered 5.085 kilograms of methamphetamine from his possession, along with five mobile phones and two passports. Officials said the seized narcotics are estimated to be worth more than Rs 10 crore in the international market, the news agency reported.

Investigators alleged that the accused operated an organised cyber fraud network by posing as a citizen of the United States or the United Kingdom.
