The former West Bengal CM arrived at the protest venue at Esplanade's Y-channel after Kolkata Police reportedly denied permission for the demonstration to be held at the nearby Rani Rashmoni Road
The dharna witnessed loud slogan-shouting by TMC supporters during Banerjee's address, creating a charged atmosphere at the venue
Several senior party leaders accompanied Banerjee at the dharna, including Firhad Hakim, Madan Mitra, Derek O'Brien, Kalyan Banerjee and Dola Sen
Banerjee said the protest would continue as scheduled until the evening. The protest was aimed at highlighting the alleged attack on TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee, claims of post-election violence against party members, and concerns over the eviction of hawkers
“We were not given permission to set up a stage or use microphones,” she said while speaking to the gathering
