A major security alert unfolds near Mecca after Saudi authorities say a drone launched by Yemen’s Houthi movement was intercepted and destroyed south of the holy city before entering restricted airspace. India reacts strongly to the reported incident. MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal says India is deeply concerned and condemns attacks that threaten Saudi Arabia’s sovereignty, civilians and critical infrastructure. India also highlights the special religious significance of Mecca for Muslims around the world. The Houthis, however, deny targeting Mecca and say they do not pose a threat to the holy city.
