After all the uproar in some quarters over the Pataudi Trophy being retired from this edition of the India in England Test series, the two cricket icons - James Anderson and Sachin Tendulkar - who the new trophy is named after, were not at the Oval to do the honours on Monday.

Captains Ben Stokes and Shubman Gill were seen posing with the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy and sponsors trophy.

mid-day.com understands that Tendulkar, who ought to have been invited for the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy presentation by the host board, the England & Wales Cricket Board, has not been invited.

The trophy was shared with India winning the final Test at the London venue by six runs; the final scoreline reading 2-2.

England drew first blood at Leeds, India roared back at Edgbaston while the hosts won the third Test at Lord's by 22 runs. The fourth Test at Old Trafford was drawn.

It can be recalled that India won the Pataudi Trophy only once - in 2007 - and Mansur Ali Khan Pataudi - presented it to Rahul Dravid.
