'Failure is okay, cheating is not...': Sachin Tendulkar recalls father's lessons on Teachers' Day

Team India's legendary batsman Sachin Tendulkar paid tribute to his father, Ramesh, on Teachers' Day.

The former cricketer shared a post on his official social media handle, in which he stated that his father was the first person to recognise his passion for the game.

He has also announced the Professor Ramesh Tendulkar Memorial Fellowship in partnership with healthcare partner Inga Health Foundation. Under the initiative, one Doctor of Medicine (MD) will receive financial support for a year-long specialisation programme in cleft and craniofacial care in Srinagar.

Sachin Tendulkar's international career statistics

The right-handed batsman concluded his Test career with 15,921 runs in 200 matches. His top score in the format is an unbeaten 248 runs, with 68 half-centuries and 51 tons. In ODIs, Sachin smashed 18,426 runs in 463 matches. With a career-best score of an unbeaten 200 runs, he also has 96 half-centuries and 49 tons in ODIs. The Mumbai-born former cricketer just played one T20I match and managed to score 10 runs.

Apart from his statistics, he has achieved several records across all three formats of the game. In Test cricket, Tendulkar has played the most number of matches, which is 200. He also has the most runs in the format-- 15,921 runs. He also has the most centuries in the longest format of the game, which is 51 tons.

In One-Day Internationals, he holds the record for the longest career. Tendulkar represented India for 22 years and 91 days in ODIs. He also has the most runs in a calendar year (1894 runs), most hundreds in a calendar year (nine tons), most half-centuries in career (145). Tendulkar has also achieved the record of the fastest player to complete 18,000 runs in ODIs. He took 440 innings to achieve the feat.

Sachin also has the most number of centuries in international cricket. He concluded his career with 100 international tons across all formats of the game, and the record is still untouched. The former cricketer is also the highest run-scorer in international cricket with 34,357 runs across all three formats of the game.
