Suryansh Shedge has been drafted into India's T20I squads for the upcoming tours of Ireland and England to replace injured all-rounder Nitish Reddy, the BCCI announced on Tuesday.

The national side suffered a setback before their departure as Reddy was sidelined from the white-ball tour of the United Kingdom. He sustained a quadriceps injury during the recently concluded ODI series against Afghanistan.

"The men's selection committee has named Suryansh Shedge as a replacement for Nitish Kumar Reddy in India's squads for the upcoming T20I series against Ireland and England," the BCCI said in a statement.

Reddy announced issues regarding his left quadriceps after the conclusion of the third ODI against Afghanistan on June 20. Following medical evaluations, the BCCI medical team advised a stint of rehabilitation, effectively sidelining him from both upcoming T20I assignments.

Shedge received his maiden call-up after delivering a sequence of impactful performances for India A in the recently held tri-series in Sri Lanka. Operating in the middle order, the 23-year-old scored 147 runs across five fixtures while also bowling 23 overs during the tournament.

He was previously a vital asset for Mumbai during their title-winning Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy campaign in the 2024-25 season, hammering 131 runs at a strike rate of 251.92.

Reddy was also supposed to fill in the void left by all-rounder Hardik Pandya, who also has a quadriceps niggle and is not in condition to bowl 10 overs in ODIs.

"Nitish Kumar Reddy has been ruled out of the Ireland series. The MRI has revealed swelling with fibre disruption in the left quadriceps. He has been asked to report to the COE for further assessment," the medical bulletin in possession of PTI stated.

It is understood that the all-rounder will need at least four weeks, with the possibility of an extended timeline, to finish his rehabilitation program before he can initiate his return-to-play protocols.

The 23-year-old has made 10 Test appearances, 6 ODI appearances, and 4 T20I appearances for India so far. He participated in two matches during the Afghanistan series, missing out on the second encounter held in Lucknow.
