An emotional Suryakumar Yadav lifted the T20 World Cup 2026 trophy as the 'Men in Blue' won the title for a record third time. Jasprit Bumrah won the player of the match for the final, while Sanju Samson won the player of the tournament trophy.
During the post-match presentation, Jasprit Bumrah was adjudged the man of the match for his brilliant performance with the ball. The Indian spearhead took 4 wickets for 15 runs and played a big part in India's win.
Speaking to Ian Bishop during the post-match presentation, Bumrah admitted that this win felt special after the heartbreak of 2023 against Australia.
"Feels extremely special because we lost the previous final at my home venue. Was very motivated to do well. All the plans executed perfectly. Started my cricket career in Ahmedabad, won the World Cup final, and won the Man of the Match. Couldn't be happier with how things panned out." Bumrah said
Sanju Samson was the next on the stage, as he won the player of the tournament. The Indian opener was dropped during the initial stages of the tournament, but was brought back into the team during the knock-out stages. Samson scored 3 consecutive fifties and won the ICC Player of the tournament.
"Very grateful, very hard to find words for how I feel. Have put in a lot of work, and by God's grace, everything has worked out. Very proud and very happy with how things have worked out for me this tournament." Sanju Samson said.
Suryakumar Yadav has joined the illustrious list of captains to win the T20 World Cup for India. Yadav has joined MS Dhoni and Rohit Sharma as the only Indian captains to win the T20 WC.
Speaking at the post-match presentation, Suryakumar Yadav said," Very happy with what has happened today, it has been a long journey. BCCI gave me the opportunity to lead this side and winning the World Cup is a special feeling. Bumrah is once in a generation bowler. He is the best in the business."
With this win, India became the first team ever to successfully defend the T20 World Cup. The 'Men in Blue' also became the first team to win the T20 World Cup as a host nation.
