Arne Slot's Liverpool ended a four-game losing streak in the English Premier League as star forward Mohamed Salah notched up his 250th goal for the Reds in a 2-0 win over Aston Villa on Saturday.

Salah pounced on an error by Villa custodian Emiliano Martinez to open the scoring in first-half stoppage time before midfielder Ryan Gravenberch's deflected effort (58th minute) secured a long-awaited victory that lifts the defending champions up to third in the table (18 points from 10 games).

The Egyptian's struggles have played a major part in the Reds's difficult start to the season - this was only his second goal in the last seven games across all competitions - but he now sits behind only Ian Rush (339) and Roger Hunt (280) as the third highest goalscorer in the club's history.

"I'm so proud and happy about this achievement. But more importantly, I'm glad we are back on track now," said a relieved Salah. "It's a very tricky season for us because we have a few new players, they are very good players, but they need time to adapt. We lost some players too, and it takes time to know each other's games, but everything will be fine," the Egyptian added.

Slot, who was under fire after the Reds had lost six of their last seven games across all competitions - including a 0-3 loss in the EFL Cup to Crystal Palace after he chose to rest most of the senior squad - was delighted to finally have a bit of luck go his way.

"Happy with the result and the performance. We were a bit more lucky than we've been recently, but these are the small margins I've spoken about. I think in other games we've created more chances than today. But in football it's about results," said Slot.
