Forwards will put critics in their place: Mikel Arteta

Ahead of Arsenal's blockbuster English Premier League clash against London rivals Chelsea on Sunday, Gunners manager Mikel Arteta is backing his forwards to deliver a decisive statement to silence the critics.

Arsenal romped to the league title last season on the back of their set-piece prowess and rock-solid defending, prompting pundits and rivals fans to call out the lack of output from their front-line that often failed to impress from open play - only Viktor Gyokeres (14 goals) found the back of the net more than seven times.

Having only added Christos Tzolis to their attack while jettisoning Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard, the pressure is on Arsenal's forwards to deliver on a consistent basis, which Arteta backs them to do this season.

"I love my forwards. I think by the end of the season they'll put everybody in their place," said Arteta before urging fans to back them to the hilt. "Let's make sure that we are right behind them and doing everything we can to help them," added the Spaniard.

Man City edge out Coventry 1-0

Coach Enzo Maresca registered his third consecutive English Premier League win with Manchester City on Saturday. A 26th-minute header from Erling Haaland saw them beat Coventry City 1-0.
