Liverpool agree deal to sign Barca defender Ronaldo Araujo on loan

Liverpool have reached an agreement to sign Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo on a season-long loan, according to reports. The 27-year-old Uruguay international has made over 200 appearances for the Catalan giants and even captained them last season.

The move for Araujo comes at a time when Liverpool are facing a shortage of experienced central defenders. Ibrahima Konate has left the club to join Real Madrid, while new signing Jeremy Jacquet, 21, is yet to feature in pre-season after recovering from shoulder surgery. Meanwhile, Joe Gomez picked up an injury in a recent friendly game, leaving skipper Virgil van Dijk as their only fit centre-back.

Liverpool endured a tough campaign last season, finishing fifth in the English Premier League, which led to head coach Arne Slot being replaced by Andoni Iraola.
