India powered its way to a convincing 3-0 victory over reigning champions Bangladesh in their last round-robin league match at the Jawaharlal Nehru stadium here on Sunday. This victory helped India top pool B, enabling them to play Bhutan in the semi-finals on June 3.
Bangladesh, who finished second in Pool B will face Nepal, the Pool A toppers in the other semi-finals on the same day.
India's first goal came in the 35th minute when an energetic attack on the left flank produced a perfect cross for midfielder Pyari Xaxa to shoot a low, hard shot into the rival goal.
The second Indian goal came in the 77th minute via a spot kick after substitute left winger Malavika was brought down in the box. Substitute forward Lynda Kom made no mistake from the spot, scoring with a low, hard shot. India shot its third and final goal when a high cross from midfielder Sangita Basfore was trapped neatly and hammered into the net by Malavika.
