While the debate over the importance of the FA Community Shield continues to rage on, Sunday's combatants Arsenal and Manchester City will have only one target in mind, to add another trophy to their burgeoning cabinet.
When asked if he saw the Community Shield as a friendly, Gunners boss Mikel Arteta replied saying as long as there's silverware on the line, winning is all that matters.
"It's a trophy we can have [win]. We won the English Premier League last year. But you can see how hungry the players are to win more, which is a good sign," said Arteta.
While Arsenal have strengthened an already well-rounded squad with the addition of midfielder Bruno Guimaraes and winger Christos Tzolis, there remains plenty of mystery surrounding the Sky Blues, considering this will be Enzo Maresca first major test since replacing the highly successful Pep Guardiola.
City have also lost experienced figureheads in the dressing room such as Bernardo Silva and John Stones, leaving them as the underdogs in Sunday's clash. "Arsenal have shown in the last few years that they are a fantastic team; well managed by Arteta. But at the same time, we are City and we are going to try to close the gap and try to compete again," said Maresca.
