Aston Villa boss Unai Emery believes their UEFA Super Cup clash on Wednesday against Champions League-winners Paris Saint-Germain represent a great opportunity for his charges to measure themselves against the ‘best team in the world.'

"The Super Cup is another opportunity to win a trophy and to build on our success [they won the Europa League title last season]. To play PSG, the [best] team in the world [is great]. They are a team we can compare [ourselves] with," said Emery.

Emery believes his team will take plenty of confidence from their previous clash against Luis Enrique's side in the 2024-25 UCL campaign, where they lost the quarter-final tie 4-5 on aggregate, but did manage to beat them 3-2 at home.

"In the second leg, we exploited our potential in attack, and had some really good moments to come back [in the tie]. We were really dominant against them [PSG]. In the end, we didn't win [the tie], but to play against PSG and feel that we could achieve the level they had, it was very important for our belief. So we're going to prepare for the game thinking that we can compete with them," explained Emery.
