Bollywood bows down to Rahman

All of B-Town cheer Slumdog Millionaire musician's victorious streak at the 81st Annual Academy Awards.

As Danny Boyle's Slumdog Millionaire won eight awards including two awards for AR Rahman (Best Original Score and Best Song) and one for Resul Pokutty (Best Sound Mixing) at the Oscars this year, reactions from B-Town poured in for our two Indians standing tall at the ceremony.

A R Rahman made the nation and Indians the world over proud. He showed that we are as good and as capable as the best of the best.

Filmmaker Rakesh Roshan

A R is a genius and this is just the beginning. INDIA IS PROUD OF HIM.

TV host and comedian Sajid Khan

I am so happy and extremely proud that two Indians Resul Pookutty and A R Rahman have made a mark in Hollywood. They have created history and have made our nation proud. India ki Jai Ho!

Singer Adnan Sami

I am over the moon. Apart from being a great musician, A R Rahman is a great human being. I am so happy for him and so is all of the fraternity. I'll squeeze his cheeks when I see him. He's a darling.

Choreographer and director Farah Khan

Slumdog Millionaire is a fabulous film. And the score made it even more special. The film deserved every award it bagged. It's truly one of the best films I have seen in many years.

I think Resul and Rahman, they have truly made all Indians proud. What an amazing performance! Rahman's acceptance speeches were dignified and he was full of confidence when he delivered them.

This is the first time I got late for work because I was watching the Oscars.

Vidya Balan

God, I am overjoyed, overwhelmed, proud, humbled to say the least! I couldn't stop my tears when I saw little Jamaal, Freida, Anil, Rahman, Resul and the team on stage.

To me, from Obama's win to the Oscar win of Slumdog Millionaire, it's a sign that there are better times ahead the world over.

It's no longer about where you belong or who you may be but about One People, One Nation and One World and the binding force will be merit!

Aamir Khan

My congratulations to Resul, Rahman and Gulzarsaab for winning the Oscar. It is certainly a proud moment for India.

It is great to see Indian technicians and creative artists being recognised internationally.

Dino Morea

They deserve it. That's true talent being appreciated. Rahman's music is awesome and has always been.

Amrita Arora

I always love Rahman's music. He's truly deserving of this award! Unbelievable! As far as Resul is concerned, I've worked with him at MTV for a year.

He was always a cut above the rest. Congrats to both!

Rajkumar Hirani

A great sense of pride and jubilation has swept the country.

I am really happy that there is recognition for Indians at an international platform.

Congratulations to Gulzar Saab, A R Rahman and Resul Pokutty.

Vidhu Vinod Chopra

There is nothing to say. All we can do is sit back and savour this historic moment.

Annu Malik

I am very happy that the awards for India came from the world of music. They showcase the hard work that music directors and lyricists put in and Rahman getting not one but two awards is the icing on the cake.

He has opened an international door for musicians to achieve the impossible and has turned a dream into reality.

Now Hollywood directors will definitely be eyeing Indian talent in a great way and I am very happy and proud of India, Gulzar uncle, Rahman and the Indian film industry.

It's a great moment for us. I had got up at 6.30 am to pray that Rahman wins the award. I was cheering for him.

Riteish Deshmukh:

It's absolutely historic. Every Indian is proud of them. All I want to say about the music is Jai Ho!

Shahid Kapoor

It's a proud moment for us Indians. As I am shooting in Jodhpur right now I have been constantly on the phone talking to my friends about it.

I'm particularly happy for Rahman and Resul as they have achieved something that has made all Indians proud.

Rahman is one of the most gifted musical geniuses we have; his work transcends all awards and all borders.

Subhash Ghai

Slumdog confirms the potential talent of Indian artists, technicians and music composers like Rahman. I am extremely happy for Rahman.

I had always predicted it during Taal and his English number in Kisna. Rahman is original, soulful, innovative and a complete music composer.

He had offered me the Jai Ho track for Yuvraaj. I was with him but every song does not fit your film.

My situation for the disco song in Yuvraaj preferred Shano Shano. I am happy that Jai Ho went to a right film.

Every creation brings its destiny be it a film or a song. We are proud that ARR got for original music score which compelled the west to look at our music and ARR the Great! Jai Ho!

JOHN ABRAHAM

Super Rahman, Gulzarsaab and Resul have made India proud. Though I still believe that it is not our film.

Danny Boyle has been gracious in his appreciation about Mumbai and its people. Slumdog's success made us all proud though.

This year, the flavour of the Oscars was India. I believe today the world is India. It's amazing to feel and be Indian.

Sanjay Dutt

Its a great feelin for all of us and Rehman, Gulzarsaab and Resul have put a feather in our cap.

Mother India (starring his parents Sunil Dutt and Nargis) was one of the first Indian films to go there.

AMITABH BACHCHAN

'Rahman has given better music in other films'

It's a great day for Indian talent and Indian cinemau00a0two of the fraternity winning. Slumdog's music is good and AR's music is never wrong or bad.

Though he has given better music in several other films. Jai Ho is good but I feel he has given better music inu00a0 some other films.

A lot depends on the requirement of each film. Slumdog Millionaire required what he gave and it was good.

Roja, Bombay, Lagaan, Jodhaa-Akbar and Delhi -6u00a0 are some of the ones I have also enjoyed.
