MS Dhoni, the footballer, scores
A day after his heroics on the cricket field in his hometown, India and CSK captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni displayed his footballing skills as he scored a goal during a friendly match on Friday.
Team India skipper MS Dhoni, a keen soccer enthusiast and a Manchester United fan, took to the field as a footballer on Friday and enthralled fans.
Dhoni, who smashed a 19-ball 63 in his IPL team Chennai Super Kings' win over Surisers Hyderabad in the Champions League Twenty20 on Thursday, played a 35-minute friendly football match at former Jharkhand deputy chief minister Sudesh Mahto's assembly constituency, Silli, about 55 kms from Ranchi.
Dhoni, who was a goal keeper during his school days, plays football regularly even now as warm-up ahead of key cricket matches.
Dhoni, who clobbered five sixes in Sri Lankan's all-rounder Thisara Perera's over at the JSCA stadium on Thursday, teamed up with Mahto to play against a local soccer academy team at the Silli stadium.
Talking to a news agency, Mahto said Dhoni's fans at Silli now want him to go for six sixes in an over. "Fans urged him to hit six sixes in one over. And Dhoni said intejar karna padega (have to wait)," AJSU president Mahto said quoting Dhoni.
Dhoni, who is the football ambassador for English Premier League, and Mahto scored a goal each as their team swept past their young rivals 4-1 in the friendly tie before a capacity crowd.
