It's not unusual that you request a song and the DJ snubs your choice. But a 22-year-old gold merchant took things a little too far when a bar singer ignored his request — none other than a song called “Pahle Sonu Se Phir Monu Se” — and allegedly hurled things and molested her in retaliation.

‘Threw tissues and bottles’
On October 18, the man, identified as Mahendra Singh, was patronising a bar in Colaba, when he requested the singer performing live songs for the song. She, however, did not oblige and continued singing her set list.

Taking offense, according to the victim’s complaint with the Colaba police, he first threw a metal tissue box at the stage.

Later, he hit her with a mineral water bottle and even as the staff nearby attempted to calm Singh, he allegedly reached out to her and touched her inappropriately. He also used profane language around her.

Police Speak
“Based on the complaint, the police has registered a case under sections 354 (Assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) and 506 (Punishment for criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code. The accused is yet to be arrested as he has secured interim bail,” said a police officer from the Colaba police station.

The other side
Singh’s lawyer, advocate Sunil Pandey said, “On Tuesday, my client secured an interim bail from the Bombay high court. The complainant is an acquaintance of my client and she has acknowledged that too. The incident happened on denial of a request for a song. As far as molestation charges are concerned, he was falsely implicated in the matter. We had moved the court for interim bail and on surety of Rs 25,000, the bail was granted.”
