Om Puri to star in his first wife Seema Kapoor's film
Veteran actor to begin shooting for Seema Kapoor's directorial venture, 'Mr Kabaadi', next week
Om Puri may have gone back to first wife, Seema Kapoor (sister of Annu Kapoor), but now they are teaming up professionally. The veteran actor features in her directorial venture, Mr Kabaadi, which goes on floors on September 5. It was only recently that Seema found herself caught in the crossfire between Puri and his estranged second wife, Nandita.

Mr Kabaadi stars Vinay Pathak, Sarika, Annu Kapoor besides Puri. The film will be shot in Lucknow on a start-to-finish schedule.
Says Seema, “It has been a while since I made a film, but yes, Mr Kabaadi is ready to roll. I have written the script too. As the title suggests, it is a satirical comedy set in Uttar Pradesh.”
Earlier, Seema wrote for TV shows like Pal Chhin and even directed a few episodes of Rishtey. About eight years ago, she directed the NFDC film, Haat: The Weekly Bazaar, which featured Divya Dutta, Archana Puran Singh and Yashpal Sharma.
Adds Seema, “Acting, writing and direction runs in the family. My father, Madan Lal Kapoor, was a veteran theatre actor. My elder brother, Ranjit Kapoor, is a writer (Jaane Bhi Do Yaaron) while Annu is into acting as well as anchoring.”
Can we expect to see Puri in a stellar role in her film? “Yes, of course,” she says.
Om Puri married Seema Kapoor, sister of acclaimed actor Annu Kapoor, in 1991 and the marriage reportedly lasted a few months. He met journalist Nandita Puri in 1993 and soon after, they tied the knot. Differences between the couple came to the fore in 2011 just before Puri’s biography, Unlikely Hero: The Story of Om Puri, penned by Nandita, was about to be launched—it chronicled his bedroom tales.
Later, she also levelled domestic violence allegations against him. Earlier this year, they opted for judicial separation, ending their 26 years of marriage with the actor getting visiting rights to son Ishaan, 18. He is said to have rekindled his relationship with Seema now.
