Sujata Kumar passes away: Sister Suchitra Krishnamoorthi mourns her death

Actor-Singer Suchitra Krishnamoorthi's elder sister Sujata Kumar, who featured as Sridevi's sister in Gauri Shinde's English Vinglish (2012) passed away on Sunday night. She was 53. The last rites were performed at the Vile Parle crematorium yesterday.


Krishnamoorthi tells mid-day, "She was more than a sister. She was the one who raised me; the person I considered my first mother." The actor-singer describes her as a compassionate warrior who lived life on her own terms. "She personified the word bindaas. My family and I are in shock. It happened unexpectedly. She was admitted with jaundice, and then we found out that the cancer she had 10 years ago had relapsed. It had metastasised into Grade 4 cancer."

The family gathered in the ICU when they knew her health was deteriorating. "We told her how much we love her, and chanted for her. I cannot imagine life without her. I will miss her kindness and wisdom. The family has decided to celebrate and salute her spirit instead of mourning her death." Kumar, who previously lived in Oman, was also seen in Guzaarish, and the show, 24.
