The next healthcare revolution may be less about treating illness and more about identifying risk early enough to keep people healthy. Krishan Rattan believes the economic consequences could reach far beyond medicine.
Krishan Rattan has spent much of his career thinking about infrastructure. Increasingly, he believes human health should be thought about in similar terms.
Roads, energy systems and digital networks are valuable because they allow economies to function. Health performs a comparable role at the level of the individual. When people remain healthy, they work, travel, consume, care for families, create businesses and participate in society. When health deteriorates, the economic cost spreads quickly.
This is the lens through which the Terra Invest Founding Partner views longevity.
Not immortality. Not a collection of expensive anti-ageing treatments. A broad transition from reactive medicine toward earlier detection, more personalised intervention and longer healthspan.

Technology alone will not determine adoption. Healthcare delivery itself has to change.
Many medical systems remain organised around institutions rather than individuals. Patients move between departments, clinics, laboratories and specialists, often carrying fragmented information between them. Preventive healthcare works better when the relationship is continuous.
This is why Terra Invest is interested not only in biotech and diagnostics, but in the service layer around longevity. <h1 style="text-align: left;">Why Dubai and Abu Dhabi have an opportunity</h1>
The UAE has several advantages in building this category. It has a globally mobile population, sophisticated private healthcare, strong hospitality and aviation links, significant investment capital and governments that have made AI and health innovation strategic priorities.
It is also positioned to serve international clients. For a premium preventive-health platform, the addressable market does not end at the city boundary. Dubai and Abu Dhabi can function as regional hubs for people travelling from the Middle East, South Asia, Europe and Africa.
Rattan believes the same ecosystem can eventually support research, clinical partnerships, technology companies and investment capital, creating something larger than medical tourism.
<h1 style="text-align: left;">The less glamorous interventions may matter most</h1>
The longevity sector inevitably attracts futuristic claims. Rattan thinks investors should be able to hold excitement and scepticism at the same time.
There may be genuine breakthroughs in regenerative medicine and the biology of ageing. But a meaningful portion of the longevity dividend may come from interventions that are already familiar: preventing diabetes, improving cardiovascular health, detecting cancer earlier, preserving muscle and bone, improving sleep and making patients more consistent about preventive care.
That is commercially important because it means the opportunity does not depend entirely on a future scientific breakthrough.
<h1 style="text-align: left;">A multi-decade economic theme</h1>
The final part of Terra Invest&rsquo;s thesis is macroeconomic. If a large population remains healthy for longer, the effects extend into pensions, insurance, employment, travel, housing, financial services and consumer behaviour.
People may work differently. Retirement may become more flexible. Older consumers may remain active for longer. Employers may invest more aggressively in prevention because experienced talent remains productive.
&ldquo;Adding healthy years is not only a medical outcome. It is an economic outcome.&rdquo;
That is why Rattan believes longevity could ultimately become comparable to other structural investment themes that began inside one sector and then spread across many.
The promise is not that everybody lives forever. It is much more practical: that a larger share of a longer life can remain a good life. For Terra Invest, that is already big enough to build an investment thesis around.
