'Fitoor', released on February 12, features Aditya Roy Kapur, Katrina Kaif and Tabu in the lead roles.
The film's dramatic love story and visual opulence has received a thumbs up from movie aficionados, thus taking its opening weekend total to Rs 14.11 crore.
The director says he is happy with the response.
"My aim was to create a memorable movie going experience unique to its world and story. I am truly encouraged that cinema lovers have appreciated it for what it is," Kapoor said in a statement.
'Fitoor' is based on Charles Dickens' novel 'Great Expectations' and is the love story of a poor boy and a rich girl.
