"I am absolutely thrilled that my film Road Movie is going to be the opening film at Berlinaleu00a0the Berlin Film Festival," says a beaming Tannishtha Chatterjee.
This talented young lady who hails from Delhi has made her mark in international cinema with films like Shadows of Time, Brick Lane and Bibar. She was nominated in the best actress category for her film Brick Lane for the British Independent Film Awards along actresses like Dame Judi Dench and Anne Hathway in 2007. CS catches up with the lady as she gets ready to rock in Berlin:
Festival magic
This is my third film to be showcased at Berlin after Florian Gallenberger's Shadows of Time and Shubrata Sen's Bibar. I love the Berlin Festival. It gives me a chance to see some fab films and to meet some popular people. I can't forget my rendezvous with Keanu Reeves the last time. The weather will be freezing at minus ten degrees. I am looking forward to soaking into the festival spirit.u00a0
Decking up
Dressing up is an important aspect of the entire process. I might wear a chiffon blue and red saree for the opening event or maybe an antique boutique gown. I am yet to see the gown as it's with the team in Berlin. Most probably, it will be an Alberta Ferretti gown.
Or else, I will opt for a black cocktail dress that I got from Anthropologie, New York with Ted Baker heels. I have selected red crystal bracelets and earrings with the dress. Unfortunately, I'll have to wear a warm coat above all that finery.
Bowled over by Berlin
I love Berlin. For starters, it is the cheapest European city and it attracts artists from all over the globe. This is my fifth trip to the city, so I will be acting as a tourist guide for Abhay Deol, Satish Kaushik and Dev Benegal. I am planning a lunch meeting with all my German friends. Florian (Gallenberger) is also going to be there and I am really looking forward to meeting him.
I love the coffee shop at Ritz Hotel near Potsdamer Platzu00a0their buffet breakfast is amazing. Berlin is a very historical and multi-cultural city, with a lively underground music scene, which I enjoy.
On a 'Road' trip
I play a role of a gypsy woman in Road, Movie. Now, Dev was very particular that he didn't want the character to be region-specific like a Rajasthani or Kutchi woman.
My character is that of a gypsy woman, who comes into the film from nowhere. She is a bit real and a bit surreal. It was a tough role to enact. But Dev has a way to get the best out of his actors.
