As a young girl, actress Priyanka Chopra's aspirations didn't escape the secure grip of a rewarding career option surrounding software engineering, but destiny with its limitless ideas and an off-kilter sense of humour, had her wearing the Miss India tiara. She followed it up with the Miss World crown, becoming the fifth Indian to hold the title. In a film industry that was accepting of flabby arms and love handles, Priyanka brought in a sense of stylish decorum, from her first film Andaz (2002) to playing the u00fcber stylish fashion editor in the recent release, Dostana. That she's a natural on screen and a gifted glamazon brought in appreciation from fans, with respect from fashion brands and designers trickling in quickly. Legendary Italian label Salvatore Ferragamo succumbed to her magnetism, and this month, Priyanka was invited to be part of the Shoes for Star project, making her the first Indian actress to join the ranks of Hollywood greats Audrey Hepburn, Marilyn Monroe and Sophia Lauren. "I feel proud and honoured to share space with this list of illustrious women. When Leonardo Ferragamo took me on a tour of the Salvatore Ferragamo Shoe Museum, and through the display of the Shoe Lasts' of these amazing women, it was a special moment for me. I'm touched that the Ferragamo family chose me, after the Maharani of Cooch Behar," said Priyanka in an email interview. The dream voyage was not without the inimitable VIP treatment reserved exclusively for Hollywood stars. She was a guest at the Ferragamo Group-owned Gallery Art Hotel. A day trip to the Palazzo Spini Feroni, label's atelier since 1938, for a welcome lunch with the Ferragamo family and a tour of the Salvatore Ferragamo Museum in Florence, gave Priyanka the chance to meet expert shoemakers who measured her feet to make wooden lasts. This was followed by a detailed discussion with shoe designers, who will create customised shoes keeping her taste and requests in mind. "The entire experience was so unreal. My feet never felt so special and pampered, especially when they were measuring them to create my foot last, and a special shoe. When I was shown a range of the most gorgeous shoes, I behaved like a kid in a candy shopu2026 I wanted everything," says the actress who dressed in an Abu Jani-Sandeep Khosla chikan churidar-kurta, and slipped into a Manish Malhotra saree for dinner.
