Film: TUM MILE
Rating: ****

What's it about

First, a confession from a Bollywood buff I have never been a big fan of Bhatt Films in general and Emraan Hashmi in particular. With Tum Mile, I change my mind. What happens when one ill-fated day you bump into the love of your life after a long hiatus? And that one day happens to be the 26th of July 2005, theu00a0 day the city of Mumbai came to a crashing halt? Tum Mile is the journey of such a man (Emraan Hashmi as Akshay) and woman (Soha Ali Khan as Sanjana)u00a0 that begins with a chance meetingu00a0 that causes upheaval in their hearts; mirrored with a city in mayhem as the rains lash down and threaten to take over.u00a0 A scarred Akshay and Sanjana make their way through a devastated Mumbai and grapple with memories of their intense past as they are thrown together in this catastrophe.

What's hot
This is undoubtedly the best film from the Bhatt camp so far and definitely notches above the director's previous film Jannat. Though the narrative shifts between the young and bright past and a mature and thrilling present, it justu00a0 makes you flow with it from the word go. This is by far Emraan's most mature and understated performance till date (YES....IT'S COMING FROM A EMRAAN HASHMI CRITIC!) but it's Soha that takes you by complete surprise. Their chemistry is simply electrifying! Watch out for the scenes where the couple fights it's straight out of reality. The director Kunal Deshmukh is the new force to reckon with on the lines of new age directors like Imtiaz Ali (Jab We Met/Love Aaj Kal) and Kabir Khan (New York). His direction reflects maturity and great understanding of the subject, especially in scenes like the nasty fight at the breakfast table, which startles you with its rawness and the last scene of the film, which hits right home and moves you to tears. The moments of disaster are what every Mumbaikar will relate to. And the music stays with you even after you leave the theatre.

What's not
The movie is predominantly a love story with floods being a backdrop. One went in expecting to see more of the floods, so it leaves you wanting for more of that space. Also, the supporting cast could have been better.

What to do
As an ardent Bollywood fan, Tum Mile is 'paisa vasool'. And surprisingly, this Emraan Hashmi film is a must-watch with your family.
