Abhishek Bachchan was born on 5 February 1976 in Bombay (Mumbai) to veteran actors of Hindi cinema, Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan. He has a sister, Shweta Bachchan.
His grandfather, Harivansh Rai Bachchan, was a noted poet of the Nayi Kavita Literary Movement of the Hindi literature and professor at the Allahabad University in Uttar Pradesh, while his grandmother, Teji Bachchan, was a social activist.
Bachchan attended Jamnabai Narsee School and Bombay Scottish School in Mumbai. He continued his education in Delhi and Switzerlan. He then attended Boston University but left prior to completing degree to support family during bankruptcy of ABCL.
He was diagnosed with dyslexia at the age of 9 but only recognised himself as one after he graduated.
Abhishek Bachchan started his film career as a spot boy for his father, Amitabh Bachchan’s production house, Amitabh Bachchan Corporation.
His first film was supposed to be Aakhri Mughal. Dilip sahab was to play my father in the film.
He later went on to make his debut with Refugee alongside Kareena Kapoor. He later starred in films like Yuva, Sarkar, Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna, Bunty Aur Babli, Guru, Dus, Bol Bachchan and the Dhoom franchise.
Abhishek was first choice for Lagaan, Dil Chahta Hai, Humraaz, Rang De Basanti, Saathiya among other films.
Talking about Abhishek's love life, he was engaged to actress Karisma Kapoor. However, it was later called-off with reason not yet known to anyone.
Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai’s paths first crossed each other while on the sets of Dhaai Akshar Prem Ka. Soon, they became good friends and worked in films like Umrao Jaan, Dhoom 2, Guru among others.
Abhishek Bachchan decided to marry Aishwarya when they were shooting for Mani Ratnam’s Guru. In a romantic proposal, he asked Aishwarya to marry him on a hotel balcony in New York.
The duo took the plunge and got married to each other in a grand wedding on April 20, 2007. They welcomed their daughter, Aaradhya, in 2011.
Apart from acting, Abhishek has keen interest towards sports. He is a known fan of English football club Chelsea FC. He is a co-owner of the Jaipur Pink Panthers team in the Pro Kabaddi League.
As per media reports, his net-worth is estimated to be around Rs 280 crore. His car collection include Bentley Continental GT, Mercedes-Benz S-Class, Mercedes GL63 AMG and Audi A8L. He owns a residential apartment in Mumbai’s Worli area and Borivali. He has been associated with property holdings in Dubai’s Jumeirah Golf Estates.
