Gautami Kapoor attended Queen Mary School, Mumbai and completed her college education at Ruia College in Mumbai. She was born on June 21, 1974, in Maharashtra to a middle-class Maharashtrian family.
Gautami started her working at the age of 16 as a model after which she shifted to acting in TV serials. She bagged UTV’s assignment which was supposed to mark her acting debut but the project never took off.
Recalling a beauty pageant in the '90s, Gautami revealed the bold swimsuit round surprised her conservative family.
Instead, she was first seen on the small screen in the show Alag Alag on DD metro. The actress became a household name courtesy her role in the Ekta Kapoor’s show Ghar Ek Mandir, where she also met her now husband actor Ram Kapoor.
Gautami has also been a part of some prominent shows including Kehta Hai Dil and Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi. She recently shared how she was brutally trolled years back as she replaced Smriti Irani as Tulsi Virani.
Apart from television, she has also worked in films like Pyaar Tune Kya Kiya and Kuch Naa Kaho. The latter starred Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai in lead roles. For a dance number, the actress even grooved with the actors.
Gautami has also been a part of films like Fanaa, Student of the Year and Shaadi Ke Side Effects among others.
After dating for several years, Gautami and Ram Kapoor tied the knot on February 14, 2003 through Arya Samaj after some initial opposition from their families. The families opposed as Ram had multiple multiple affairs before marriage.
Gautami and Ram have two children, a daughter named Sia and a son named Aks. Sia was born in 2006, and Aks was born in 2009.
Few know that this is Gautami’s second marriage. She was earlier married to Madhur Shroff, a commercial photographer. That marriage took place when Gautami was 22-year-old. However, they amicably parted ways.
Post her marriage to Ram Kapoor, Gautami took sabbatical from her acting career to take care of her kids and family. She made a comeback on the small screen with the show Tere Sheher Mein.
Gautami was recently trolled as she made an eyebrow-raising revelation that she wanted to give her 16-year-old daughter a vibrator as birthday present.
