Ramayana trailer: How Ranbir Kapoor prepped to play Lord Ram

Nitesh Tiwari's Ramayana continues to be one of India's most ambitious and highly anticipated projects. One of the biggest talking points of the film, ever since it was announced, was Ranbir Kapoor playing Lord Rama. Taking on the monumental responsibility of portraying the revered deity, Ranbir required far more than usual preparation, from spiritual to physical.

Yoga
While speaking about his role at the San Diego Comic Con 2026, Ranbir revealed, that he practised yoga for two years.

Deep study
Ranbir also shared that his preparation involved extensive literary research, as well as consulting scholars to understand the texts better. “I read a lot, met with a lot of scholars," he shared.

Meditation
He also shared at the San Diego Comic Con 2026 that he would meditate for hours. "I had a guru called Suvir who used to sit and meditate with me for hours to get me really close to the teachings of Lord Rama," he said.

Archery training
Given that Lord Ram was a skilled archer. Ranbir also took specialised archery training to ace the role.

Voice training
According to an India Today report, Ranbir also underwent extensive vocal training to play the part of Lord Ram in the film. Director Nitesh reportedly wanted Ranbir to sound 'different'.

Daily workout regime
To build a lean, warrior physique, Ranbir Kapoor shifted away from standard gym weight machines. With guidance from his fitness coaches, Nam-Wook Kang and Shivohaam, he underwent an intense 3-hour daily workout regime.

Functional workout activities
His physical transformation is attributed to functional activities like Kettlebell workouts, battle ropes, sledge pushes, cardio and even countryside hiking

Lifestyle changes
Earlier, a popular paparazzo handle, Viral Bhayani, had shared that Rabbir Kapoor had quit alcohol and had even turned vegetarian to play lord Ram in Ramayana.
