In the upcoming sequel to Son of Sardaar, Mrunal Thakur replaces Sonakshi Sinha as the female lead opposite Ajay Devgn. While Sonakshi featured in the 2012 original, the makers opted for a fresh pairing to bring a new dynamic to the storyline.
Vaani Kapoor portrayed the role of Malini Patnaik, Amey (Ajay Devgn’s wife) in Raid 2. In first part, the role was essayed by Ileana D'Cruz. Director Raj Kumar Gupta confirmed, the transition happened as Ileana was unable to commit for aligned schedule.
The same thing had happened in one more film with Ajay Devgn. In Singham, Kajal Aggarwal was seen as the female lead, and later when Singham Returns was made, Kareena Kapoor Khan had replaced her. As per reports, Kajal Aggarwal stepped away from Singham Returns as she had South commitments.
In War 2, Kiara Advani steps into the place that was once filled by Vaani Kapoor. She will play the lead alongside Hrithik Roshan and antagonist this time is Jr NTR. While Vaani was just an eye candy, Kiara is seen doing action sequences and reportedly playing an officer.
Bhool Bhulaiyaa 1 released in 2007 and starred Alshay Kumar and Vidya Balan. It continues to be one of the most bankable horror movies. The franchise was taken ahead by Anees Bazmee with Kartik Aaryan and Kiara Advani and the film striker gold at the box office. However, in third instalment, while Kartik remained the lead, Kiara was replaced by Triptii Dimri, considering the praise she got for her stint in Animal.
Dream Girl which released on 2019, starred Nushrratt Bharuccha and Ayushmann Khurrana in lead roles. However, the 2023 release had Ananya replacing her. Nushrratt even expressed disappointment when she wasn't casted.
The Baaghi franchise began with Shraddha Kapoor, followed by Disha Patani in 2018. In third part, Shraddha returned to the franchise and now with fourth, Harnaz Sandhu is introduced as female lead. The Baaghi series follows different storylines in each instalment and so the leads keep changing.
The first instalment of Golmaal featured Rimi Sen as the female lead. Later, in Golmaal Returns and Golmaal 3, Kareena Kapoor Khan played the female lead. And then in Golmaal Again, Parineeti Chopra and Tabu were roped in to play the female leads. So this franchise surely had multiple female leads, but the male leads were same apart from Sharman Joshi being replaced after the first part.
When Munna Bhai MBBS was released in 2003, they had cast Gracy Singh as the female lead. But, when in 2006, Lage Rahe Munna Bhai was made, they roped in Vidya Balan for the movie.
Arshad Warsi and Naseeruddin Shah starrer Ishqiya was a black comedy. The film earlier starred Vidya Balan in lead role. The mantle was later taken over by Madhuri Dixit in Dedh Ishqiya as director Abhishek Chaubey believed that Vidya’s character had no significant contribution to the sequel.
Kriti Sanon made her Bollywood debut opposite Tiger Shroff in Heropanti (2014), where their chemistry and fresh pairing were widely appreciated. However, for Heropanti 2 (2022), the makers opted for a completely new storyline and character setup, casting Tara Sutaria opposite Tiger instead.
Satyamev Jayate had Aisha Sharma alongside John Abraham in Part 1 which released in 2018. In the sequel, Divya Khosla Kumar replaced her as it featured a new storyline with John Abraham in a triple role.
