Rajat Bedi is the grandson of writer Rajendra Singh Bedi and son of director Narendra Bedi. Despite hailing from a known background, his career failed to take off. His elder sister, an accomplished writer, is currently collaborating with Sanjay Leela Bhansali on Love and War.
Rajat began his career as a fashion model, winning the first edition of the Gladrags Manhunt contest in 1994. He celebrated the win with Aishwarya Rai and Sushmita Sen at Australia, who won Mis World that year.
Bedi started his journey in films by assisting director Ramesh Sippy in the Shah Rukh Khan-starrer Zamana Deewana.
During the shoot of this film, Shah Rukh Khan gave Rajat a nickname Tiger. He did that as there were two Rajat’s on sets. Rahul Rawail’s son Rajat Rawail also worked as AD in film. Apart from SRK, Rajab as also shared screen space with actors like Akshay Kumar and Sunny Deol.
Rajat made his film debut with the 1998 film 2001 Do Hazaar Ek. However, the film tanked and his films like Jaani Dushman, Ansh, Maa Tujhe Salaam also failed to get him recognition.
He finally got his breakthrough role with Koi Mil Gaya alongside Hrithik Roshan in which his negative character was lauded. He essayed the role of Raj Saxena, he arrogant college brat who constantly mocked and harassed Rohit.
However, in a recent interview Bedi revealed that he was sidelined and left out of the film’s publicity, but till today, audience recognize him for that role. He claims that the film was promoted only with Hrithik and Preity.
He also shares how he has been used and abused and left behind specially in my work. The actor asserts he faced consequences of trusting people.
After a failed Bollywood career, Bedi moved to Canada where he started his real estate business. However, that too flopped as some investors betrayed him.
Rajat got married to Monalisa Bedi in 1998 and they have two kids- Vera and Vivaan. He recently mentioned that Vivaan is looking forward to enter the industry. While, his daughter grabbed attention for her blue eyes after which people are comparing her to Kareena Kapoor.
He was last seen in the 2023 Telugu film Ahimsa. The same year he also featured in a Punjabi film Gol Gappe, which was inspired by Hera Pheri. Alongside his sister Ila Bedi Dutta, he co-produced the television series Lajwanti.
Following the massive success of series, Rajat Bedi is ranked at 9th position on IMDB India. Earlier, he was at 954th position.
