The film released in 2015 is set in 2007 and acts as the first prequel, introducing Elise and her team.

It shows how psychic Elise Rainier overcomes her tragic past to help Quinn Brenner, who believes her late mother is trying to reach out, but a dark entity targets her instead.

This one is set in 2010 (with a 1953 childhood prologue) and follows Elise's personal history.

Rainier is haunted by her past as she is drawn back to her old ghostly home. However, things begin to change after her family is pitted against an evil force.

Set in 2010, the original film released in 2010 introduces the Lambert family.

Josh and Renai Lambert move to a new house to seek a fresh start. However, after their son Dalton mysteriously falls into a coma, paranormal events start occurring in the house.

Insidious: Chapter 2 (2013)

The second film in the series picks up directly after the events of the first film.

Following the trauma and paranormal activities, Josh Lambert and his family relocate to his mother's old house to recover. However, they encounter new, strange and chilling paranormal events.

Insidious: The Red Door (2023)

This one is set nine years after Chapter 2, and follows the story of a now adult Dalton Lambert.

Josh Lambert heads east to drop Dalton, off at school. However, his son's college dream starts becoming a living nightmare when the repressed demons of his past suddenly return to haunt them both.

Insidious: Out of the Further (2026)

The latest instalment is set in 2026, and continues the supernatural threat. Gemma, a young mother, discovers she can travel into the Further, which is a purgatorial realm of lost souls. After something evil comes after her, she discovers that she can bring what lives there back to the real world.
