Filmmaker SS Rajamouli has found himself in a legal soup after the Vanara Sena organisation filed a complaint accusing him of allegedly hurting Hindu sentiments. This comes after his remarks against Lord Hanuman during a recent promotional event for his upcoming film Varanasi in Hyderabad. The Baahubali filmmaker was seen at the Globe Trotter event, which was a launch event for his upcoming film, where he made the allegedly controversial remarks.
Complaint filed against SS Rajamouli
According to a police official, they received the complaint filed by the Vanara Sena organisation at the Saroornagar police station in Hyderabad on Tuesday. As per the police official, "Yesterday we received a complaint from Vanarasena alleging that filmmaker SS Rajamouli hurt Hindu feelings by saying, 'I don't believe in God Hanuman,' at the Varanasi movie teaser launch in Ramoji Film City. So far, we have not registered a case."
The police official said they were currently investigating the matter.
What SS Rajamouli said?
Filmmaker Rajamouli reportedly made the remarks after facing technical glitches during the event, which witnessed attendance from thousands of fans who travelled from different countries for the event.
Addressing the audience after the technical glitch, Rajamouli apologised for the inconvenience. Recalling that his father, writer Vijayendra Prasad, had earlier said during his speech that Lord Hanuman's blessings were with the team, the filmmaker said in Telugu, "Naku devudu mida pedda nammakam ledu andi. Nannagaru vachi indaka Hanuma...venakala untadu, nadipistadu ani chepparu. Idi aina ventane kopam vachindi. Idena nadipinchedi ani? (I don't believe in God. My father mentioned that Hanuman will guide me. I got angry as soon as this (glitches) happened. Is this how He's helping me?)" Realising he had gotten overwhelmed, he paused briefly to regain composure.
Speaking of his wife Rama's deep devotion to Lord Hanuman, he said, "My wife has a great devotion to Lord Hanuman. She talks to Him like He's her friend. I even got angry with her for a while. Let's see," he said, adding, "Let's see if my wife's Hanuman helps us this time"
Later during the event when he tried once again to play the glimpse of he film, he said, "Of course, we want to see the trailer once again. I am also waiting for it. Nannagaru, oka sari mee Hanuma kapadedu anukunte, ee sari maa adiva Hanuma kapadedo ledo chuddam. (Father, if your Hanuman saved me once, let's see if my wife's Hanuman does it again)."
